The Bali Kite Festival is an annual international kite festival held in July – October in the Padang Galak area of Sanur, Bali. The giant traditional kite (with a width of 4 meters and a length of 10 meters) was made and flown in a competition between teams from a community in Bali.
This seasonal festival has a religious message intended to send a message to the Hindu gods to provide abundant agricultural produce.The team consists of about 70 to 80 people, each team has a Gamelan, a flag carrier and a kite flyer.
Bebean (shaped fish), Janggan (bird-shaped) and Pecukan (leaf-shaped) are the three traditional kites that are flown during this kite festival. Kites are flown by 10 or more adults. Kite Bebean is the greatest kite. Kites Janggan has a long cloth on the tail with a length that can reach more than 100 meters.
Other competitions are also held for new kite creations such as kites depicting Hindu deities and sponsor kites.
